Exotic, beautiful, friendly, warm – Bali is all of that and more. When I was last there, I made friends almost as soon as I deplaned. For those of you who know me, I am also a singer/actress. At the very first beach side restaurant I visited, I befriended some local musicians who were playing and ended up singing a couple of songs with them. They then invited me to sing with the band forever! Ha! Spending my days in Bali was very tempting, I must say, but I had a thriving singing career in Japan at the time, so politely declined the invitation.
The best massage I ever experienced in my life was in Ubud, a charming arts and culture town located amongst rice paddies and steep ravines, surrounded by small farms and dense forest. The masseur escorted me to a traditional Balinese hut with an open roof. After an amazing massage, he literally lifted me up and placed me into a warm milk bath peppered with rose petals. As I basked in the bath, he delivered a delicious ginger tea for me to sip on. Upon the end of ‘bath time’, the masseur lifted me out of the tub and placed me on a cane mat where he toweled me dry. The finishing touch was the application of a hybrid coconut oil. Talk about feeling like spaghetti! I wasn’t sure I could remember how to put one foot in front of the other after being pampered to such and extreme. To this day, that massage ranks as the crème de la crème of massages. Oh, and I did end up singing once more with that band upon my return to the beach!
